The Butterfly in My Garden

“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued,
is always just beyond your grasp, but which,
if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you”
Nathaniel Hawthorne

The butterfly counts not months but moments,
and has time enough. ~Rabindranath Tagore

The butterfly is a flying flower,
The flower a tethered butterfly.
~Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
~Irish Blessing

Around our house, you never know what you will find. Here is a whimsical guardian of the garden, happily rooting around looking for treasure. Isn't he adorable?

Just Another Plain Old Rock --- RIGHT!

While visiting sissie, I found this beautiful rock in her garden. Little did she know she was harboring an awesome SEASCAPE in amongst her herbs and flowers. Click on the picture to enlarge and you will see what I mean.

Angels Rock!

Mom has been working in the garden(s) again, moving around the rocks she and dad have collected over the years, setting out plants to be planted later when she decides she likes where they are ... The angel I see in this rock has probably been there a long, long time. It's just that I've never seen her before ... maybe I didn't look hard enough!

Snow Fairy

Hey, what's this white stuff on my head?
Why did I take off my boots?
Where is my coat?
Where did the sun go?
Why did I think this dress was appropriate?

This wasn't supposed to happen!

Broken Pottery

This pretty little jug used to hold sprigs of dried grasses, and it was beautiful. It was used it as an outside decoration one summer, and was much admired and happy. Winter came, and the poor little jug was forgotten. It felt abandoned ... and cold. One night it froze solid, and split in two. A child came along, found the broken pieces, and tossed them aside where no one would be hurt by the sharp jagged edges. It landed in the most beautiful garden, where it blended in perfectly.

It's jagged edges now worn with time, this pretty little jug is happy again, as you can tell. It has found its true home, amidst the ferns and leaves of the garden. Beauty comes from being content and happy in our lives, no matter what our circumstances are. This pretty little jug can show us how.
