This wonderful sign now hangs on Mom's shed ...
I was with my brother Dow when we found it abandoned in a parking lot the day after Christmas nearly ten years ago ...
Dow was so tickled when his girlfriend and I jumped out of the car and grabbed the sign. It was something he would have done himself, had he still been able to do so.
Dow died less than a month later.
And I am thankful that we have this wonderful sign as just one of the reminders of his beautiful and adventurous spirit.

And HAPPY THANKSGIVING to those of us who celebrate this holiday here in the US!

A nice story, thanks for sharing. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Clytie
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple sign, with so many memories attached.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like the way this has been photographed with the shadow of the maple leaves.
I have been missing Dow so much lately. I LOVE this sign. I had never heard the story behind it. What a lovely way to end my day--to read this lovely Dow Tale. ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteYup, it is very important to always park your tree legally!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wish there was a remedy for "missing a loved one", because it seems to come up with the holidays! But this is a great reminder of your brother:)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. You obviously have many great memories of your brother that you share and cherish with the rest of your family.
ReplyDeleteThat sign is so funny! I can just see a parking lot full of parked trees. Would they get a parking ticket if they overstayed their time? Set down roots, so to speak? :-)
Of course you can use my hearts, any time. Would the seagull poop heart that I posted a few weeks ago also fit into that theme? :-)) http://picturesbyim.blogspot.com/2011/09/guest-heart-thursday.html
