Somewhere in France ... I think!

I have been working on converting a bunch of negatives to digital format, to replace photos lost over the years (mostly when the roof leaked on my box of memories) ...

This particular photo was taken while on a tour bus trip we took to France back in 1984(ish). (How I wish I had labeled those negative folders!!!)
Don't you just love that drop-down gate? I would hate to be standing under it when it came down!!!

It's "Fridays Fences" time over at Jan and Jer's - come join us to see amazing fence "posts" from around the world!

P.S. Do you wonder how I am converting my negatives? I put together a "negative to positive conversion kit" - for FREE! To see how I did it - and you can too! - visit my Random Finds post that explains the whole process!

Willamette River, January

I posted this picture of the sun on the Willamette River back in October.
It was taken at a tiny park near Newberg, Oregon, and I had to climb down a huge embankment to get to the edge of the water.

Note the tree trunk to the right of the shot ...
Because I went back to the same spot last week, after our flooding rains ...

Remember that tree trunk?
It's under the water, just in front of and to the left of the sign (which is usually quite high on the bank).

There was a lot of debris floating downstream - like this entire tree!

It was still raining hard, so I covered my camera and ran back to the car.

I am linking this with Tina's "PicStory" - where the theme this week is "A Walk in the Park"!
(Although for me it was more like a RUN and SLIP in the park!)

Raindrop Reflections

A drop of water,
A wintertime grape vine,
A distant fir tree,
A moment of blue sky ...
What a combination!!!

I am linking this with James' "Weekend Reflections",
NatureFootstep's "NFMacros",
Laura's "Macro Friday",
and a new ones for me, "Skywatch Friday", "Watery Wednesday", and "Life as this Mommy Knows It" who hosts a linky party called "Look Whooooo's Snapping".

Broken Fence

The fence and gate lay broken on the ground ...
Done in by time, weather, and vandals.

I took a shot of what was left, and kicked the pieces aside ...

Then I thought - it's "Fridays Fences" time!

I've Stopped Listening ...

Someone, who shall remain nameless (yes, it's a relative, must I claim them???), was visiting my parents.
I found this old sign, and hung it up near the door.

They didn't take the hint.
Sigh ...
My ears still hurt.

Penned In and Tagged!

I only took this picture because earlier this year, around my birthday, I decided that it would be fun to take random shots of my age. That would be 50. Sigh.

That phase didn't last long, but I got a couple of good shots representative of my elderliness ... ((So what's with this "penned in and tagged" feeling I get sometimes???)) ... (LOL)

It's Friday's Fences time over at Jan and Jer's place!

X Marks the Heart!

I had to stop and get a photo when I saw the giant "X" in the sky ...

It wasn't until I got home and looked more closely that I saw the heart.
Up near the top of the picture.

Handicapped Sign

I found this sign on the door of a restroom in a local supermarket.

It would seem that ALL handicaps are covered here!

This Door Closed ... Signs Signs

I was actually leaving the parking lot when I spied this sign ... I did a U-turn (sorry to all of those people I cut off!!!) and pulled back into the lot - just to get this shot!

I wonder if someone had tried to walk through the door without realizing it was closed?
Or maybe it is the owner's way of saying ... please use the FRONT door?

Either way, I got a giggle to start my day ... and the other drivers on the road got to vent all of their frustrations!!!

It's the one year Memoversary for Lesley's "Signs, Signs"!
Come on over and grab a piece of cake!!!

Taphophile Tragics #2

I found myself with a few hours to wander around the pioneer cemetery portion of Mountain View Cemetery in Oregon City (USA).

I was curious as to the old fashioned headstones ... like the kind I've seen in the movies!

There were several of these concrete "Woodmen of the World" tree-shaped headstones ... They each had a plaque with the Woodmen logo, as well as the usual burial information.
(I was using my old camera, and the shots were quite blurry, so this information is not readable.)
(Thank you Julie and Gene - for the link regarding the Woodmen of the World. I was happy to read through their history!)

As I was leaving the cemetery, I came across this information sheet posted near the entrance to the cemetery. I wish I had seen it when I first went in! I totally missed finding "Josephine's Rose".

I guess that means I'll have to go back!
When I do go back, Julie, you can be sure I will do my best to find out about those 3 Australians!!!

Welcome 2012!

What's your word for 2012?
This year, instead of making "resolutions", I am adopting a word.

My word for this new year is ... SEIZE.

As a reminder to hold on to the important things in my life!

I will start with ...

Seize BEAUTY!
It's all around us, all we have to do is LOOK.
To see the beauty in the simple things ...
Like a leaf.
