Pitch Shadows ... Shadow Shot Sunday

A beautiful sight, these sparkling gems of pitch.
Leaving their shadows against the tree ...

But they have a darker side ...
This tree is going to die.
It's life blood is flowing away.
Like tears.

  1. Our cherry tree gave us the most beautiful berries many years in a row. And when it died it did so a year at a time. One branch would die and then the following year another died and in the end it had been trimmed back until there was the trunk and one last branch reaching to Heaven and the blossoms opened on it and then came the beautiful cherries.I got to eat one or two before they were devoured another time by the animals in the back yard. And then, it died. I left it stand for a few years and was happy to let it be a perch for the birds now eating from a seed feeder. And then, one Sunday, this forelorn Cherry tree met Ike. Ike came all the way up from the state of Florida just to meet my Cherry Tree. And we were indoors that Sunday, eating dinner, and someone said, louder than normal as the wind was really blowing, "The Cherry Tree fell down." We all jumped up and looked and sure enough, Ike, that damned hurricane from Florida had knocked down our poor old Cherry Tree.

  2. A very beautiful shot with such a sad story.
We have a dead avocado tree in our grove that is a meeting place for a crow and a humming bird. Hawks sometimes drop by, also. I would hate to see it chopped down. Nancy wrote about it on her blog Ladies of the Grove which you can get to from our other blog.

  3. Beautiful but sad. I could see sap where the trees broke off in our recent snowstorm.

  5. The sap makes unique shadows and the tree dose look like it is weeping tears of sadness.

  6. So sad about the tree but you've captured it beautifully. Little saps of tears and their shadows. Very nice image! Have a great week ahead!

  7. That is a stunning shot - but how sad that it signifies the end for the tree.

  9. Haunting picture. Part of the cycle of life isn't it? -- and dead trees are wonderful for birds. Thanks for sharing this!

  13. Tears, or really fancy, dangly earrings. Superior Snap, I'd say!
