Serviceberry Surprise

The serviceberry blossoms snuck up on me this year ... Must have been those few days of warm weather that enticed them out of their winter sleep.

  3. I've never heard of them before either and I visit my sister in Oregon a lot. Are they like blackberries?

  4. They are more like wild plums! The Native Americans around here used to smash them up with dried meat to make pemmican.

  5. Remarkable! I got sidetracked for quite awhile looking up info on the serviceberry shrub! Strange that I haven't heard of it before. I like the way the ferns are unwinding in the first photo.
